Application of Plant Growth Regulators on Ryegrass

Ryegrass is a general term for herbaceous plants of the genus Lolium in the Poaceae family. The ryegrasses commonly used for lawn construction include annual ryegrass (also known as multiflora ryegrass, Italian ryegrass) and perennial ryegrass (also known as perennial ryegrass), both of which are seasonal turf grasses. Ryegrass has tender stems and leaves, dark green color, well-developed tillers, fast growth, strong resistance to pests and diseases, strong ability to divide and dip, and good resistance to trampling. It is one of the most popular turf grasses in the world.
Application of plant growth regulators on ryegrass:
1. Promote seed germination
Soaking seeds in 0.5mmol/L salicylic acid solution for 24h can effectively improve the germination rate and germination potential of ryegrass seeds and seedling growth. In addition, soaking 3 different varieties of ryegrass seeds in 0.15~1mmol/L salicylic acid solution for 24h can also significantly increase the germination rate and promote the elongation of radicles and plumules of ryegrass under drought stress conditions.
2. Regulate growth and reduce manual pruning
During the sowing period of ryegrass, soaking the seeds with 750mg/L Paclobutrazol or 3000mg/L Daminozide B9 solution for 8h can effectively control the height of ryegrass seedlings without affecting its germination and formation, and reduce the number of pruning before formation. In addition, spraying 200~400mg/L Chlormequat Chloride or 200mg/L Uniconazole solution after pruning the perennial ryegrass in the early stage of tillering can significantly delay plant growth, reduce the number of pruning, and promote tillering. Secondly, spraying 400mg/L Mepiquat Chloride solution on ryegrass can also delay the growth of ryegrass and reduce the number of pruning. Furthermore, spraying with 200mg/L paclobutrazol solution has a significant inhibitory effect on the plant height, leaf length, and fresh weight and dry weight of the aboveground part of perennial ryegrass, which can be used as chemical pruning for perennial ryegrass.
3. Enhance drought resistance
Spraying 40mg/L Uniconazole solution on the leaves during the growth period of ryegrass can improve the drought resistance of ryegrass, which is of great significance for water-saving irrigation of lawns. In addition, spraying perennial ryegrass with 200mg/L Paclobutrazol solution can also significantly improve its resistance to early drought.
4. Extend the viewing period
Spraying perennial ryegrass with 1000mg/L Paclobutrazol solution can enhance the metabolic capacity of the plant and extend the viewing period of lawn grass. In addition, spraying 600mg/L Paclobutrazol solution on the leaves of perennial ryegrass in mid-May (8.0cm stubble) and mid-June (5.0cm stubble) can enhance the ability of ryegrass to survive the summer. By August, the degree of yellowing of the entire lawn will be reduced, and the yellowing parts are all leaf tips. The chlorophyll content of the leaves will increase, and the quality of the lawn will be significantly improved.
