Application of Plant Growth Regulators on Centipedegrass

Centipedegrass is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Poaceae family. It is one of the three major warm-season turfgrasses in the world. It has strong creeping growth performance, rapid expansion and spread, fast turf establishment, deep roots, strong resistance, drought tolerance, and It is resistant to barren shade and has significant advantages such as low plants, high coverage, easy establishment, and resistance to extensive management. It is widely used in public green space lawns, sports field lawns, soil and water conservation, and highway slope lawn planting, etc.

Application of plant growth regulators on Centipedegrass:

  1. Promote seed germination

Soaking Centipedegrass seeds in 200 mg/L gibberellic acid solution for 3 days can promote seed germination and effectively increase the germination rate.

  1. Promote cutting rooting

Soak the leafy stems and branches of Centipedegrass with 100 mg/L naphthalene acetic acid solution for 5 minutes before cutting and planting to promote rooting and growth.

  1. Enhance resistance and extend green period

The withering period of Centipedegrass lasts for more than four months throughout the year, and the withered leaves are yellow with brown, which reduces the ornamental value and landscape effect of Centipedegrass. Spraying Centipedegrass plants with 10 mg/L 6-BA solution can improve cold resistance and extend their green period by 16 to 17 days. In addition, spraying Centipedegrass with 1000 mg/L butyric hydrazide solution can also improve its cold resistance, delay the decomposition of chlorophyll under low temperature conditions, and extend the green period by 4 to 5 days.
