Lawns have the functions of greening and beautification, soil and water conservation, microclimate regulation, noise reduction, viewing and sports. At present, lawn grass has been widely used in urban construction, garden landscape, sports venues, entertainment and leisure, environmental protection and other aspects. However, lawns with different functions have different choices of lawn grass.
For example, the lawns in parks, public places, commercial square gardens and family courtyard rest areas are mostly selected from red fescue, velvety bentgrass, zoysia grass, carpet grass, etc.
When selecting grass species for sports fields and golf courses, lawns require resistance to trampling and easy management. You can choose meadow bluegrass, creeping bentgrass (especially used in golf courses), bermudagrass and zoysia grass.
In order to add green to the lawn of the sports field during the winter dormancy period, some perennial ryegrass and annual ryegrass can be replanted. Decorative lawn grass requires grass species with fine leaves, good feel and green color. Red fescue, fine fescue, ditch leaf zoysia grass, carpet grass, etc. can be selected.
The grass species that can be selected for fixing soil on the slopes on both sides of highways and expressways include creeping bentgrass, carpet grass, bermudagrass, American paspalum, etc.
For lawns used for soil and water conservation, deep roots and the ability to quickly form turf are required, and management is extensive and easy to survive. Buffalo grass, common carpet grass, and Zoysia grass can be selected.
The main applications of plant growth regulators on lawn grass are:
- Promote tillering and increase lawn density;
- Delay growth and reduce mowing frequency;
- Increase greenness and improve lawn quality;
- Improve the cold resistance, heat resistance and drought resistance of lawn grass, and extend the green period of lawn;
- Some lawn grasses use seeds for reproduction. In seed production, treatment with growth regulators can increase lawn seed yield.
